Children around the world know that once their parents tuck them into bed and turn off the lights, there really are monsters that lie in wait behind the closet door, ready to keep them awake. But what they don't realize is that the monsters scare children because they have to--you see, it's their job. So how do they get so good? They go to Monsters, Inc. Academy, of course. And, as luck would have it, this game's just enrolled you.
Based on Disney/Pixar's Monsters, Inc. movie, this not-so-scary action game takes place in the realm that makes things go bump in the night. Play as James P. Sullivan, a.k.a. Sulley, a huge, softhearted monster with blue fur, big purple spots, and horns. He's just doing his job when he has to get scary. Or you can play as his quirky sidekick Mike, a feisty little one-eyed monster that's colored so bright green just looking at him will keep you awake.
Play in huge, colorful environments, where you learn to become a top scarer for the Monsters, Inc. franchise. Train across the desert, snow-capped mountains, city streets, and at the academy. Complete exercises designed to hone your scaring abilities, sharpen your scaring tactics, and more. If you've got what it takes to rise through the ranks of the scare chain, you may even have what it takes to unlock all 36 hidden scares.
With more than 15 monstrous zones, each fur-raising level remains faithful to the movie's story line and is filled with exploration, puzzles, and Monsters, Inc. activities. Run, bounce, belly flop, cannonball roll, and tail spin your way past dozens of different enemies. Perform the coolest scares as Sulley or Mike with 18 unique animations for each character. Navigate through a maze of monstrosities as you try to find and scare small creatures, known as Nerves, so you can fill your Scare Canisters.

The first thing he says when he wakes up is, "Wanna play Monsters, mom;" and the first thing he says when he gets home from pre-school is, "Wanna play Monsters, mom." He's been playing it for three weeks, and I have to pull the plug to get him to enjoy other enriching activities. I think he enjoys the freedom of being able to move about the Monster world, and being in control of the character. The threats to Sculley or Mike are minimal and easily defeatable; puzzles and challenges are easily overcome (probably why older gamers don't enjoy the game). The player can go to any part of the world, and repeat challenges. As far as graphics... I love the movie clips that are shown as a reward for completing different challenges. While graphics aren't on par with games such as Final Fantasy X, they are eye-candy to my three year old: Water splashes, a ball bounces, foot prints appear as the characters walk through snow, objects cast... I don't regret buying it, my kids ages 8, 5, and 3 love the game. It is very easy to play and my kids are not big time gamers so it is the perfect game for them. It is also very fun for my 3 year old to watch. The controls are easy to learn and are explained very well. This game gets 5 stars with me. |
