If you hear a loud twang as you open the door and the door suddenly gets quite heavy, this is the part you need.This latest kit is an improved design, as it replaces the top fixed cord guide with a second moving roller (you'll see what I mean when you compare the new and old parts). The door now opens and closes significantly smoother and easier that it ever has, even when new. And gone is the strange goose honk sound the door made as the strained cords drug across the fixed guides. It's my realistic hope that the smoother action and reduced friction will improve durability beyond the 3-4 years we've seen thus far. Only time will tell....... The repair is an easy 30 minute job for the experienced DIYer; a bit more difficult for the novice, but definately doable. Search the web, there are a number of HOW-TOs out there. This kit containing two links, and two "improved design" guide pulleys was actually less expensive than a single link string. The 'improved' design of the guide bracket uses a pulley at the bottom pulley AND the top guide (The OEM had a pulley on the bottom and a fixed guide at the top). Seems like a good idea, right?? I thought so too! Actually, this pulley at the top (that is intended to reduce friction of the string sliding on the OEM fixed guide) squeaks UNBEARABLY loud when the tensioned string puts pressure on it and the plastic pulley rotates on it's plastic shaft. Another reviewer actually posted a video review showing how loud it is. I didn't believe them, and now am sorry I didn't! It REALLY is that loud. Without pressure on the pulley, it spins smoothly, freely, and silently, but add the pressure of the tensioned door balance string, and WOW, does the Plastic-on-plastic rotation make a terribly...
