Wheel of Fortune

Editorial Review

Get ready to spin that wheel! Vanna White is your hostess in this home version of TV's popular game show. Compete head-to-head with an opponent or against the computer's video contestants to score points and win big. Gameplay is similar to the hit TV program. Contestants must guess the correct letters to slowly uncover a surprise word or phrase. Each spin of the wheel determines the dollar value of a correct guess. You can also buy vowels to help you solve a puzzle. This game contains hundreds of unique phrases and words to guess, which ensures that you'll return to play numerous times.

There have been many home versions of Wheel of Fortune over the years, but this version boasts gameplay that is most faithful to the original televised version. The celebrity presence of hostess Vanna White adds an element of legitimacy to the game, but her canned commentaries do get old quickly. Where's Pat Sajak when you need him? --Brett Atwood

Pros:

  • Hundreds of unique puzzles to solve
  • Faithful reproduction of the hit TV series
Cons:
  • Vanna White irritates after prolonged exposure

4.0 out of 5 stars More fun than watching the show!, November 11, 1999

If you have fun guessing the puzzles on the show, you will have fun with this game as well. It's fun to try and get the high score and win the best prize and it doesn't even seem to matter that you aren't actually winning any of it. It's great to play with family and friends. The only problem is that you might get the same puzzles over and over. The addition of Vanna was fine and if for some reason she annoys you, you can turn that part off.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Game... But Where is Pat?, April 10, 2001

This is excellent, get this one and shy away from the 2nd edition. This game plays like you are "really there". But why isn't Pat Sajack considered for the games? I think it would have been wonderful to have had both Pat and Vanna on the games, doing equal roles... Notice that on the earlier NES versions they had "...featuring Vanna White" For the PS2 version, which will probably come out next summer, it should be "...featuring Pat Sajack and Vanna White"... Just a though to you Hasbro Interactive people out there!

I wish this game didn't have to wait on Vanna and had the option to play with only 2 players (even tho you can't do that in real life, it's an option I'd like on my game). I don't like this specific games shares the controller. I find that annoying. Overall, the game itself is grand. My entire family will sit and play.
