We have purchased several of these for use with aerial silks / aerial tissu. They are the right size and rating for this purpose.

First Impressions: It's a standard 8 belay/rappel device, but with the Rescue ears, to prevent the dreaded, inescapable Girth Hitch that can occur without it.

Pros: Smooth construction, large openings to allow for 7/16" or 1/2" rope for rescue use. Not much to say beyond that. 22kn BMS (roughly 4500lb breaking strength).

Cons: Not much, except: 22kn BMS/4500lb breaking strength. There is a very similar unit out there with a breaking strength roughly double this units value for not too much more. If using this in a rescue capacity, check with your team captain or safety officer. If for recreational rappelling/belaying, by all means, this unit will work fine. And you can avoid slipping into a girth hitch!

Overall: A great rappel device, light... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Indespensable!, October 25, 2004

This is the absolute last figure 8 you'll ever need to buy! I've used this to rappel 8 story buildings, belay climbers, and perform basic high and low angle rescues. It is by far the strongest, most versitile, and an absolutely indespensible piece of equipment. Mine has lasted through heavy use for many years, and I still haven't worn through the painted coating!
