The padding on the palm is twice as thick. Still has the same coloring and design as the lightweight as well as a clip to hang them on your belt. So the requirements for the gloves we use are quite steep - durable, dextrous, and well padded. Some of my teammates traded off the durability and went with cheaper but well padded work gloves, thinking that they can replace them more easily. I went with a more expensive work glove with goatskin leather and a reinforced palm, believing in their claims of durability. These gloves were indeed dextrous, but I could definitely feel the friction of the rope on rappels and on a canyoneering trip, I burned holes into two fingers just after one day. Enter the Petzl K53 Cordex Plus Midweight gloves. I chose these over the lightweight Petzls because the leather is doubled up over the fingers. They are surprisingly nimble considering how much leather you have around your fingers. I actually find that I can tie knots faster...
