5.0 out of 5 stars Great starter or student guitar!, February 1, 2009

I own two of these wonderful solid-wood guitars and I think it's one of the best instruments out there for the costs and quality of materials. The Luna Muse Bubinga is a great small-size professional quality guitar.

It's hard to find a solid-wood (no fillers, no fake woods) guitar that still are hand-made as well. The sound is crisp and clean and surprisingly voices a nice full sound -- i.e. it sounds much bigger than its compact size. It's a great travel guitar and has electronics as well for when you need to plug it in. It makes a perfect starter guitar for young students but I've enjoyed it as well as a 20 year guitar player.

A quick internet search for good travel or starter guitars shows that this is one of the best buys out there and it's almost impossible to find a comparable guitar (low price and solid wood). You won't be disappointed if you get one of these!

I recently wrote a favorable review for a Dean (Exotica Nomad)guitar that looks very similar to this one. As I mentioned the Dean had a nice comfortable feel, and sounded OK--It did not have a small guitar "ukulele" sound to it, but did not have great resonance, and I would not expect it to.
After coming across the Luna Muse, I thought I would give it a try. Almost identical to the Dean in size and basic look--both have some nice artistic touches. The Dean has sort of southwest motif around the sound hole while the Luna has a unique Celtic design along with a design loop on the base of the neck. The Luna also has unique inlays along the neck and headstock.
Going more deeply things change in favor of the Luna. After doing a little neck adjustment and tuning it up, my first impression was that it "felt" better made. The wood and wood work was smoother, the tuners were better constructed and smoother and the sound was deeper and richer than the Dean. Of course it does not... Read more

Unfortunately, I just put this guitar back in the box and taped it up to be returned. The official reason for the return was some shipping damage, but I decided to get a refund instead of a replacement because the quality of the instrument (aside from the damage) was not worth the purchase price to me.

There were small cracks around the sides of the instrument where the electronics were installed as if the screws had been overtightened. When running your hand down the side of the neck, rough ends of the frets stuck over the edge. There were several areas where the finish had already began to bubble or peel back. All in all, I was shocked at poor quality after the positive things I had heard about Luna guitars. I did think that the parlor-sized body and slender neck were comfortable and well-designed, which made it that much more disappointing to pack it up and send it away.
