Zebco's SpongeBob SquarePants fishing rod and reel combo is specially designed for little hands, making it a great way to introduce your little one to the fun of fishing. The combo is equipped with a 30-inch, light-action, one-piece rod pre-spooled with 6-pound line, along with a floating flatboard. Together, the rod and flatboard let kids know immediately when they've hooked a fish. Other features include kid-proof line guides, adjustable drag, and a jellyfish-shaped casting plug for practicing.

About Zebco
Watchmaker, barber, and inventor R.D. Hull founded Zebco in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1949, in conjunction with the Zero Hour Bomb Company. The latter company, which manufactured electric time bombs designed to fracture oil wells, was looking to expand beyond its initial product and its expiring patent. Zebco's maiden reel was called the Standard, and was soon to be joined by the Model 22 in 1953. The Model 11 and Model 33 followed, helping popularize the notion of landing larger fish with lighter tackle. Dozens of products and patents later, Zebco still pays tribute to the legacy of R.D. Hull with every rod and reel the company produces. The W.C. Bradley Company purchased Zebco in 2001, but the company headquarters remains in Tulsa.

My son who is 4 loves this rod and reel combo. It is easy to use and fun. Don't have to worry about him losing it in the water becuase it floats. Try it out and you will love it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dissappointing, To Say the Least, July 26, 2011
By

I purchased this rod & reel combo for my 3 year-old son at a local retailer prior to a camping trip but should have known better. Even before the trip, my son was practice casting in the back yard with a casting plug on the line and problems became evident immediately. The retrieve was gritty and hard for him to manage without help. The line would occassionally foul inside the housing and I had to perform "open heart surgery" (which *never* happens with "real" Zebco kit). I wound up replacing it shortly after the trip with a Zebco Authentic 11 Micro combo which is still going strong almost 4 years later. Now, I've got two Zebco Authentics as I just recently added another the stable when my daughter came on her first fishing trip with us. Skip this one and spend the (very) few extra dollars for something that will last for years.
